Mediation is a problem solving, dispute resolution process using a neutral person to guide the parties involved in litigation to an agreed (if often not agreeable) solution. The mediator brings knowledge of the law and the litigation process to help the parties assess the risks and uncertainties of proceeding to trial.
Mediation has the benefit of bringing the parties together to work out a solution. Early use of the mediation process has the potential to save thousands of dollars in attorneys’ fees and avoid emotional and relationship damage arising from the ongoing dispute. Mediation can help the clients “get back to real life.”
Doug Purcell has been practicing law in the Pacific Northwest since 1973. Over those many years, he has developed a clear view of how the litigation process can play out. That view includes predictive analysis of what would happen at trial as well as addressing the potential downside to bank accounts and relationships of intensive litigation.
He has acted as a mediator in numerous cases, having been part of the early development of the mediation practice in Washington State, a process which is now a required alternative dispute resolution component in most superior court cases and small claims courts throughout King and Snohomish counties.
Doug uses his creative instincts and intellect to bring perspective and alternative solutions to the dispute resolution process, often able to produce insights for the parties which allow them to resolve their dispute over the course of a few hours instead of months of litigation.
